The Best Yogurt in Canada
The yogurt aisle in Canada is crowded, but only a few brands consistently come up in conversations about quality. We looked closely at three commonly found options: Simpla, Riviera, and Yoggu through the lens of ingredients, probiotics, taste, and texture.
Riviera
Riviera is a well-known, traditional dairy yogurt brand. While indulgent, its products tend to be heavier and higher in sugar, and they’re not designed with gut health as a primary focus. Its great for a cost effective yogurt, but falls short in the taste test.
Where it falls short:
Limited functional benefits & overall taste.
Simpla
Simpla is a dairy-free, coconut yogurt built around simplicity and gut health. It’s fully plant-based and vegan, with a focus on clean ingredients, real fermentation, and triple the probiotics of many competing yogurts. The result is a yogurt that actually supports digestion while still tasting great.
Texture is where Simpla clearly pulls ahead. It’s smooth, thick, and consistent, without the graininess or heaviness found in other options. The flavour is clean and balanced, letting the coconut shine instead of masking it with sweetness. The Original Coconut Yogurt is the standout, simple, lightly tangy, and incredibly versatile. Right behind it is the Simpla vanilla Probiotic Coconut Yogurt, made with real vanilla beans giving it depth without overpowering the coconut base.
Yoggu
Yoggu is widely available but while accessible, the flavour and texture can be inconsistent especially if stirred. Probiotic levels are modest, and the yogurt often lacks the thickness and creaminess people look for in a satisfying everyday yogurt.
Where it falls short:
Lower probiotic content, and a more processed feel compared to other options.
The Verdict
Simpla is the best dairy-free yogurt in Canada. Riviera works if you’re on a tight budget. Yoggu offers a basic plant-based option, but falls short on probiotics & texture. If you’re looking for the best yogurt in Canada, especially in the dairy-free and plant-based space, Simpla is the best yogurt. Start with the original coconut yogurt, then try the vanilla coconut yogurt for a naturally sweet option made with real vanilla beans.
That's our 2 cents.

What We’re Loving
Some things just hit right this time of year. A little sweet, a little savoury, made fresh and meant to be enjoyed slowly.
The Maple Latte
Real maple syrup, steamed milk, and a proper shot of espresso. Not too sweet. Not trying too hard. Just warm, comforting, and quietly perfect on a cold morning or a long drive through the valley.
The Breakfast Bagel
Our go-to order. A toasted everything bagel, crispy bacon, a freshly cooked egg, and melted cheese. Made fresh every time, no shortcuts. It’s the kind of breakfast that keeps you full and happy until well past lunchtime.
The Cowboy Cookie
If you know, you know. Chewy, golden, and loaded with good stuff. A little indulgent, a little nostalgic, and the right way to finish things off. Best enjoyed with coffee and zero regrets.
That’s what we’re loving right now.
See you at the counter.
